The 2009 New Violin Family Orchestra (NVFO), formerly known as the Summer String Orchestra, plays Edvard Grieg's "From Holberg's Time-- Suite in the Olden Style," opus 40. This 15-piece ensemble forms each summer in Central New York for about eight rehearsals and presents a benefit concert for a worthy charity. All the musicians, conductors, and arrangers are volunteers. Seven of the eight instruments of the New Violin Family are used in sections. Only the piccolo violin is absent. The NVFO is presently the only orchestra of its type in the world.

  • Your kind and elegant comments are gratefully appreciated, even though we had to wait two years for the first one! :-) I'll let the players know that there are perceptive and supportive viewers out there. We hope you will enjoy our other videos as well.

  • As a string player I am blown away by the homogeneous sound your group creates with these instruments. Are they modeled after Hutchins' designs? Would it be possible for you to put together an educational video demonstrating the sounds each size of violin, perhaps with both gut and metal strings? String players are too often resistant to change, perhaps hearing such a demonstration would convince a few to take up these instruments?

Thank you for uploading your music!

  • such clarity usually gets lost in the repeated notes, but yours does not allowing the contrast of the sweet violin solo to soar. Good tempo. With such a beautiful reason to organize an ensemble, no wonder the performance of your music also comes from the heart.
