one of the most outstanding, powerful, bad looking birds skunkworks ever developed and built!
...I persnaly don`t get why they didn`t upgraded them with modern avionics and engines the hulls were made to last longer than mankind just like the B1. The company hat a lot of them beside air force...

@RoyalLion07 Nasa still flies 2 for research on the effects of sonic booms. the rest have been moth balled and treated like utter trash, except the one in the Smithsonion. Ie the 2 dumped at plant 42 in the sand as a memorial to the plant and poeple who built and worked on them.
$200 million of job creating flying brilliance. The people of Boeing say thank you to the military industrial complex. Domestically constructing America's flying beauties on our own shores since 1916.

@bbjornst07 A couple of problems with your comment. 1) I worked on the plane for 3 years and never knew the price tag (Classified). 2) Boeing didn't build the SR-71. 3) I kind of agree with your comment about the industrial complex, but even our military aircraft are not entirely built in the U.S. anymore. The big defense contractors outsource work overseas. Thanks to "free trade agreements."

Does the U.S still use the SR-71s or was it taken out of service after the Cold War ended?

@thehaterfromthehood2 They have been retired and brought back into service a few times. I do know that NASA was using 2 of them. But I'm not sure if that is the case anymore.
