this is one of the greatest videos on all of You Tube---too bad so few people will actually see it! Johnny was a master at the kind of playing that florished after Bird ---and really inspired by the kind of showmanship that was developed by Dizzy as a way to expand the initial classical feel of Bebop. And the roots of this type of playing really come from Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson who developed a style that was fast, and exciting early on. But in the end this is all of Griff, a true master.

keith3355, Johnny Griffin one of the greatest tenor players of all time. For me the cat never ran out of ideas while soloing. He could literally just keep going on and on. For those of us who had the pleasure of seeing him perform live it was a real treat to see one of the true masters of the tenor play. Happiness!!!

That is real Jazz! I was with Art Taylor in Paris where Johnny played, we went to visit Kenny Drew, who lived in Paris and we made a dinner. Johnny made corn bread but forgot the yeast! Howard McGee who was allready ill, stopped by to eat with us. That were real jazzy Paris nights!
