This Land Is Your Land - The Whole Story

"This Land Is Your Land" is Woody Guthrie's best-known song. However, only three of the six verses Woody originally wrote are usually sung. This is a rousing performance of all the verses along with the story of how the song was written and evolved. It is the final song from "The Spirit of Woody Guthrie", an exploration with words and music of the spiritual songs of Woody Guthrie, presented at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Nashua on March 29, 2009. Too bad the speaker's dreams of hope have sunken ever deeper, especially in the Gulf, with more and more people out of work and our children and grand children burdened with insurmountable debt. I wonder what this land will look like in another 25 years.

Well, it takes some time to dig out of a hole as big as the one we were in at the beginning of 2009. Woody Guthrie was optimistic about the future, even during the Great Depression, which was a lot worse than what we have been having. For a glimpse of Woody's vision of the future, listen to "Heaven" on this channel. His vision includes technology that works and is safe, not one where it is suppressed and feared.
