Some pictures from the modified GoPro housing to flat lens.
Materials used:
55 x 55 x 12 mm plexiglas plate (with 38mm hole in center + oring base)
55 x 55 x 12 mm plexiglas plate (with 4 holes at corners for the bolts)
oring 40 x 3mm
4 ss316 bolts with nuts
Epoxy glue

The nuts are submerged into the back of the first Plexiglas plate.
Silicon grease is applied on the oring for further waterproofing.

The structure was tested at -25 meters several times.
The original housing is not modified, just adding the Plexiglas plates to transform it to Flat Lens, so the waterproofing of the original housing is not affected.

  • @afo45td no I completely understand the point of it actually. I just don't get why he didn't just buy another camera in the first place if he wanted a flat lens. This is so dumb and it looks fucking horrible

  • @basicalyimsam

first of all, the camera was bought 2 years ago, for underwater use ONLY (spearfishing) . Gopro did not inform puplic about focus problems in underwater use. The modification was built a few months later and before any commercial solution released. I don't care about the cameras' appearance, just for the right footage. If you want a "beautiful" camera, then go buy a SONY or whatever, not GoPro. The specific camera selected because its size was ideal to mount it on a speargun.

  • D'oh! ugly one. It's too heavy-looking and handmadish, just buy flat lens for onlu 17$ @ebay and change dome with flat and back in few minutes!

  • @dreyTee

The housing modified 1,5 years ago. At this time there wasn't any solution for this focus problem. Only eyeofmine released a waterproof bag with a flat lens attached, but this kind of solution was not acceptable.

  • whats the point of that?

  • @theAngelofhevn

GoPro original housing has curved ( "fish eye") lens and the underwater footage is out of focus. With this modification to "flat lens" the underwater footage is crystal clear. For underwater activities the modified flat lens is a must.

because if you don't modify the "fish eye" lens to "flat lens" the underwater footage is out of focus. For underwater activities the modified flat lens is a must.

  • dont know why people dislike this cuz this is in my opinion the best homemade version cuz the lens is removeable and replaceable. great job gave me a really good idea like yours

  • as long as it gets you a great video or pic who cares what it looks like. and i bet you spent way less then what they sell for now for a lens kit. also ppl it is only the housing that gets modified not the actual camera so no harm done. to many ppl focus on looks rather than quality and are so superficial. this truely is a corprate capitalist country.

  • @gkalogia focus problems? its fixed focus

  • so many negative comments... is this a shithead meeting?

  • Can a camera look like a cyborg?

  • you know go pro sells a flat lens housing......

  • so you basically completely missed the entire point of the mod ,basically slow.

  • So basically you ruined your GoPro
