Rookie drives shifter kart for the first time. Takes the corner wide making a pass on a slower kart and finds out how wide the back of the kart is the hard way. Would have come out of it without a scratch if he was wearing a driving suit instead of jeans and T shirt. Road rash, bruises, scraps were the extent of the injuries.

No seat belts should not be used. In the event of a flip you don't want to be any where near a kart, especially not stuck to it as it comes crashing down on your hear. The neck would become a major weak point. In this case you would need a full roll cage. Once you have all that karting will die because it'd be too damn expensive and complex. As well making it impossible to transport the thing.

What is needed is better track safety and lighter karts.
