Selective Enforcement for Unpopular Speech
Unpopular with the authorities anyway. See, they don't directly attack your free speech. Instead, they selectively pick one of thousands of laws against those who's speech they don't approve of. It's quite clever.
This is a burgeoning band that may become known as Z Squared. They haven't decided on a name yet. First of all, I wish them well and hope the police continue to leave them unharassed. They've been playing in Keene New Hampshire's Railroad Square about once a week since January (this interview was in late October) and the police never ask them for a permit. They don't mind that they're usually plugged into the public power which means they're louder than the acoustic performance in this video. They've gotten noise complaints, which I think is silly in a public square in a business district, but the police didn't stop them. Freedom Fest didn't get any noise complaints or any complaints from anyone apparently, except the enforcers themselves. If you think this is an issue of numbers, there's nothing about size or numbers in the ordinance that was supposedly being enforced regarding permits. Also, the police went around to each booth/band during Freedom Fest and asked each small group, or single person in some cases, if they had a permit. If we said "no", we were told we had to break down and leave.
The laws are weapons in the hands of the people in power. You have free speech on supposedly public property (the people in power own it- Not us) IF they like you and IF they don't mind what you're saying.
I can't see the video for some reason.

That's odd. It's playing for me right now. Did you try watching a different video to see if it works?
