Staggering that people still believe this... It has nothing to do with the earths rotation whatsoever. This is down to the shape of the sink and the drain. If the coriolis effect was strong enough to affect water draining in a sink it would be very difficult to walk in a straight line.

Homeboy, the distance from the equator has an impact of course, but even if you try this in Australia and London in a tin like this it wouldn't work. The forces of the coriolis effect are tiny when compared to the shape of the vessel and espionage is totally correct, it takes weeks to set this up in proper conditions, with a very large tank and a small outlet. Not sure what part of my original comment you think is wrong ?

@FabianBom Wrong. The reason this is fake, is because you need to be hundreds of kilometers away from teh equator to experience any effect. On top of that you of course need much more perfect conditions that this.

All these experiments are fake. The truth is it takes weeks of eliminating all other disturbances, using only a CIRCULAR container, in a scientific laboratory with very careful tools, to demonstrate this effect in this way. However, it is good tourism money for these countries.

Well, it's true that Hurricanes are generated by the coriolis effect, but as I said, it's because of the order of this acceleration. An Hurricane needs about some days to be created, this acceleration produces the motion after a long time. Time of this experiment is not enought to be the reason of its motion. Check the equations! and try to do this experiment at home, you will see that this kind of vortex don't follow your tesis!

you are right other than the (-) about the equation. F(coriolis) = 2mv X(cross) W . but the experiment is not fake...I guess hurricanes in the norhtern hemisphere don't actually rotate counterclockwise while those in the south rotate clockwise even though that is all that has ever been observed...Try reading Classical Mechanics by Taylor, chapter 9.
