Ever see your own or see/hear of an HP laptop's Quick Launch Buttons decide to work on their own? It is a common issue that affects the entire current line of laptops from HP. Users experience items such as the volume control fluctuate, and wifi get turned on/off. Problem has to do with the QL button board as seen in this video (on an HDX16T). I show that with the Maitenance and Service Guide, a person could replace the defective item without sending it to HP, especially if it isn't under warranty.

  • I have an HDX, and I discovered that my MediaSmart panel problems where related to pent up static.

Any chance you could provide us with a hotlink to the PDF of this Maintenance and Service manual, mausolfb? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net.

  • I have the link for it posted now in the info pane of this video.

  • What does a new quick launch board cost? Did they evevn fix the problema with the board? Becuase my opinion is, it will just happen again.

  • I would just like to say that I'm thoroughly pissed off at HP and will never buy one ever again.

  • What part do you need to get in order to fix this? How would I look for it on ebay?

  • what happens if some of the letter key go hey wire like i would press the f key and it would open a window just a random window? any ideas help

  • Shield the ribbon cable with high temp thin foil tape and increase the surface area of the existing foil ground pad that it rests on. I also secured the ribbon cable to the ground pad with strips of foil tape. I covered the metal sides of the LIF connector with Kapton tape to insulate it. Next, I covered the kapton with foil to shield and ground it. You dont want to cause anything to short out on the foil tape that is being added. Avoid adding foil to areas near the exposed motherboard.

  • so i had a problem with the buttons. they just wont work anymore nothing happent when i touched them. my solution was freaking simple. just unplug everything also the power cable. and then let it run on his battery and pull out the battery. it worked for me, like the hardware reseted. hope it also helps for you guys

  • i have the same plroblem with my hp pavilion dv8 1220eg is there a way to just turn the buttons off ?

  • @RajKamalKhare

Same problem - I was getting close to insanity...

Then lightning hit nearby and "killed' my new TV, Satellite Receiver, etc.

After rather expensive repairs, I got a few "SurgeGuards" (Model SZ-6t) - and suddenly the problem with the "Flea Power" Keys is gone !

Plug power-cable direct in socket and eventually the "Fleas" ( taken from HP Customer Care posting ) come back to live and do their dance

I am not a salesguy of these things - but it works...
