Just put a set on my gsxr600 today (I ride a lot of highway)....First and only report i can give is these things look shit hot on the bike. Cant wait to run them in and test out the 'demon' aspect of them.
I just put the first 600 miles on a set of these this weekend and the angel image hasn't even faded away yet. After having used up 2 sets of stradas on my VFR and being that they are no longer available, i had cycle gear mount a pair of these ($400 with road hazard and mounting). These tires vastly surpassed the strada in sheer grip, and we'll see how they last, looks good so far. Pricey tire yet worth it to an everyday driver.
i have this tyre on my front and im thinking about getting it for the back as well... My riding has improved and my leaning angle has increased... previously i did mainly urban driving but im starting to do mountain passes.. how safe is this tyre for that sort of driving compared to a 2 compound tyre
FYI, I am 6'4" and about 350lbs with full leathers/gear on. So when I thrash my tires, they really get taxed as if riding two up at the track(well almost like the track - Michigan's roads suck for maintenance so always have to have a little margin of safety). But just something to keep in mind...
You can't have a tire with everything you want. You either get GRIP or MILEAGE or some in between compromise of the two. No matter what you sacrifice one for the other. The Pirelli Angel ST is DEFINITIVELY geared towards the MILEAGE side.
The old Diablo Stradas had great grip and rarely ever slipped on me in in the summer and winter. BUT, they had a rather short mileage life for a SPORT TOURING tire of around 5k miles. The Angel ST seems to be doing in the mileage area but with less grip.
@ilikesuzuki and @nastyevilninja Cont'd. My main gripe is that once they are good and warm and you start working them hard, they will give a little. Only noticed it at or close to full lean though on sharp turns. It seems pretty consistent and predictable though.
In summary... I'd only recommend these tires for commuters. They just don't have the grip if you really thrash them. No, I wouldn't want these for track days at all...especially if you live in a warmer climate.
Hey guys, I'm previous Pirelli Diablo Strada user on my 1998 Honda VFR 800 and currently still have one on the front but I've got the Pirelli Angel ST on the rear now. I've got about 2k miles on it now this season. The Angel ST seems to be better on the mileage aspect. Dry grip is almost the same as the Strada (until you heat them up). I've only had them out in the rain once(waiting on some new water proof gear). Straight line high speed stability seems fine.
@ilikesuzuki I haven't tested them on track yet, but I'd imagine they'd be ok if you're running in the Novice groups, but Inters or Fast you may get a few slides when they overheat. I could be wrong, and so far whatever stupid stuff I've done on the roads hasn't seen any degredation of the tyre but they're just not designed to run at high track temps for that long...

@mob1235 but you cant say: the more grip, the worse the mileage.
the tyre theme is more complex
and of course in rain such a touring tyre has much more grip than a supersport tyre with nearly no tread

@soundmaster31 not all true what you say.
an angel st or touring tyres in general can have better grip than supersport tyres. depends on the temperature, your driving style, ...
if you drive a soft supersport tyre, it will have not as good grip as a touring tyre, if you cant get it on temperature on a normal road.
the window of the temperature is different and if you cant come in this window softer tyres can have worse grip, too
