New York Ranger Crisis Show # 47

The Crisis time machine is once again cranked into high gear back to a simpler times, when the Rangers dispatched opponents nightly, something similar to how the Mouth dispatches Mallomars.


This is one of the big mans all time favorite clips, mainly because it contains in his biased opinion legal Ranger instigated on ice violence as well as a surreal journey into Hockey absurdity. The two essential qualities that make up a classic clip in the The Mouths mind.

This incident took place on February 26t, 1994 when the Rangers took on the Dallas Stars at Reunion Arena. The first part of this classic clip deal with a violent yet legal shoulder check that Mark Messier unleashes on Stars captain Mike Modano. The impact of this shoulder check sent Modano flying onto the ice unconscious and into a temporary sleepy-bye state. We are treated to several different camera angles that put into question whether the Messier hit was dirty Things get a bit scary when the Reunion arena Paramedic staff has to put Modano on a stretcher in order to get him of the ice. It is at the time the journey into the surreal occurs and the twisted mind of The Mouth cant help but laugh each time, once again validating that the big man is a very twisted Ranger fan.

Legal hit...but nevertheless, under Betteman's new rules, it would be a 40-game suspension for Messier, and at least a 10-game suspension for the EMT's carrying the stretcher...

every year. Then he returned to NYR where if I remember correctly he made another guarantee when he said the Rangers would return to the playoffs that season. They didn't that season, or the next one or the next one or the one after that. And who did he play with those seasons? umm Jaromir Jagr, Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros and Alexei Kovalev...hmm we couldn't he lead those all-star teams to a stanley cup or even the playoffs?

I'm a Canadian so I've been playing hockey since I was six years old first of all. And myth of Messier being the best captain started when he lead the 94 Rangers to the stanley cup, the 94 Rangers who had the NHLs best record. During the next 10 years his leadership abilities added up to zilch. 3 years after he won the cup with NYR the Rangers got past the first round once. Then on to VAN where before he got there the Canucks made the playoffs, in his threee season there they got worse
