起火的嘉禾大廈一樓夜總會的單位，根據土地註冊處資料顯示，業主為人人汽車有限公司，該公司董事包括有「小巴大王」之稱的馬亞木、馬僑生和馬僑武。該公司於零六年三月以九­百一十五萬元購入該物業。

嘉禾大廈樓齡約四十年，大廈內娛樂場所林立，閣樓至三樓為卡拉ＯＫ或夜總會，旺角的細場夜總會多集中於該大廈。四樓至十四樓為商住及民居，包括佛堂、一樓一鳳、國術會等。­該大廈身處龍蛇混雜的旺角，曾經發生多宗罪案，兼有通緝犯被捕。

零四年，涉嫌誘騙女教徒賣淫的青龍教教主毛雲龍，被警方通緝的十一個月內，一直「隱居」於嘉禾大廈一單位，後來警方根據線報掩至一舉將他拘捕。

零六年，該大廈一名姓楊夜總會東主，涉嫌兼營外圍波馬非法賭檔，遭警方識破拘捕，檢獲約二十四萬元馬纜紙及波纜紙。
