OK, I will take the same course in that dispute! Hamas states officially that cannot accept existence of the Jewish state in Palestine. Hamas are building rockets and training suicide bombers. What are you expecting from Israel? They are humans too! Why shall they give a chance to a certain enemy for gaining power and popularity? And if the enemy use violence (rockets) - only violence can stop him. It's logical.

It was never occupied. Palestine have never existed as a nation, and it's Arab population mostly existed as nomads from Arabia drifting about up until 1921 when a huge amount of Arabs immigrated to take advantage of the economic opportunities and the high wages that resulted from Jewish settlement in the lands. The Jews returned to Israel back in 1187 and grew from there. In 1864, they became the majority in Jerusalem.
