this is NOT global warming!...it happens because the glacier moves towards the argentine lake and after a period of time it cannot handle the presion of water so it falls
i've been there and i think this is the most espectacular show of nature!... i just couldn't believe what i saw!!!...luv it

In the 60's they said "ICE AGE" Coming
in the 70's time magazine reported on the cover that by the year 1980 (YES 1980) we would run out of oil globaly. In the early 90's 1/2 of the world would be dead by the year 2000 of aids. Then The Ozone Will be completly gone by the year 2010. Now it's Global Warming (Although now changed to Climate change) Next it will be that asteriod in the year 2012 that will destroy the earth. Putting your faith in Man? God knows what he's doing. let him drive!

What's with the cheesy music covering up the sounds of this spectacular event?
-
it's named after me! lol
-
Wow this is a spectacular, naturally wonderful view !

I would say it is 60-70 meters high, but this is not the highest galcier in the area. Spegazzini is around 100 meters high. It is impresive anyway

Does anyone know if youtube has a posting of the orchestra that performed on top of this glacier on the millenium or at least what song they played? Thanks. Great video by the way.

I couldn't have said it better!

200 feet
Again, this is a normal event. The Periodically the glacier advances over the L-shaped "Lago Argentino" forming a natural dam.
With no escape route, the water-level of the lake can rise by up to 30 meters above the level of the main lake. The enormous pressure produced by this mass of waters finally breaks the ice barrier holding it back, in a spectacular rupture event.
This cycle naturally recurs at any frequency between once a year to once a decade.
