Ruffian - 1975 Acorn Stakes

Ruffian draws away to run her record to 8-0.
Frank Y. Whiteley trained champions such as Tom Rolfe, Damacus, and Forego, but he is best remembered as the trainer of Ruffian. Two days after her death he glanced at her old stall at Belmont and said, "That stall will never be occupied as long as I have this barn. There'll never be another horse worthy of entering it."

cf1970...this video shows a time of 1:34 and 2/5ths. I have folks telling me her Acorn time was 1:33 and 4/5ths??? Which is it??? Thank you!!!

@patty0130 Zenyatta is a big filly, this is true.... but her times do not reflect the same calibar as Ruffian and Secretariat... not even close. Zenyatta has been a huge boom to Thoroughbred racing and of course the dummies in marketing have made an epic fail of not promoting her and her contribution to the sport better.. but the freaks like Ruffian and Secretariat.... so far.. they have been untouchable... even by Zenyatta, or Big Brown, or Funny Cide, or Empire Maker, or War Emblem, etc.

The thing about Ruffian.. she didn't just beat the fillies of her generation.. she beat those before her as well.... how many records did she toss to the curb? She is so unhurried in her running... she just simply runs faster, much faster, than the rest of the horses. She truly must have had one of the most efficient strides ever blessed into a race horse. Just amazing.. and she would have whipped the pants off Foolish Pleasure.
