I'm quite a big fan of Vauxhall actually, and that shape of Cavalier represents a fantastic age of British touring cars. If you're interested, search for '1992 BTCC final' here on Youtube. It's a really fantastic race

well, that's very simple. Once upon a time (until 1981 I believe) Opel and Vauxhall were sold alongside each other in Britain, and Vauxhall was far more popular. I think for the simple reason that Opel is a German name, whereas Vauxhall is British. Public perception. At that time, a lot of people in Britain still deliberately bought British cars. Britain buys a lot more Vauxhalls than European countries buy Opels these days, which suggests to me it's actually a healthier brand

They didn't rename it as such. Vauxhall and Opel both validly marketed cars, and were consolidated into matching ranges under GM. The name 'Cavalier' was used by Vauxhall on their model long before Opel used 'Vectra'
