Here's my answer to the Tom Brown Tracker, Spetsnaz Machete, Scorpion WSK, Cold Steel Barong, Gerber Gator, Becker Tac Tool, Woodsman's Pal, Becker BK9, Kabar Pot Belly, ESEE 6, Trail Master, Kukri, Parang, and all other survival tools.

I'm having a blank cut out of an old 30" high carbon mill blade that's 5/32" thick. I'll be using a car tire for the handle, with hopes that it will absorb vibrations well. The blade's going to be 12" long and will have a sawback, enhanced "sweet spot", arrow sizing shaft, trig feature, exposed pommel for pounding and possibly a nail puller.

This will likely take me a couple of months to finish, and I'll post the progress.

  • Hi, yes I've still got the barong. You wanna buy it?

  • I hope it's not too late for this.

I would position the nail pull after construction so you can find the natural lift angle of the blade.

Bevel the back of the tip for better digging.

Double the handle length for two hands for dig leverage. You don't have a good hand position with the sawback to dig.

The bevel on the back of the tip would also give you a breaking wedge and a snake crusher.

That's a nice looking design. Got a little excited by that.

Not a fan of sawbacks. I'm too clumsy

  • @KCskin Right on. I'm so glad I put out the offer for suggestions. Thanks, and you're right on all accounts. The sawback is out and the new designs feature a double-handed handle.

  • How much would one of these bad larrys cost? Cant wait to see the finish

  • @wye93 Not sure yet. I'll post a update when/if I have some for sale. I'm excited too.

  • Keep the edge between the tip and the saw flat, the reason for this is that you can use it as a draw knife so you can make bows. A draw knife needs two handles, hense the flat area between the tip and where the saw begins.

  • @Yoshin9 You're right. I've taken that curve out. Thanks for your input.

  • do you still have the barong machete from cold steel?

  • I would sharpen that short top part in case you need the back swing.

  • FYI rubber is not a durable material

  • sure. use a tire. if you dont mind have black hands.

  • @thenegev77 where did you get the spetsnaz machete?

  • @envirosponsible you sell?

  • Wholly crap! Ive been doing Kali/Eskrima for the last year and my sensei makesknives and asked us to design the knife of our choice. This is practically Identical the design I cam up with for most of the reasons you thought of.. Great blade!

  • i want it

  • this is such a great idea, you could even make allot of money if you sell this idea to a company like cold steel or sog who make these kind of things
