http://www.squashskills.com Squash- Side Wall Volleys. This is an excellent routine to help work on your squash ball control. Ideally we are looking to keep our feet planted in one position and rely on our racket work to get the ball coming back to the same spot on the squash court each time. We are aiming to hit the squash ball just above the service line so that the ball comes back to you when you are standing just in front of the T. you are looking to hit the front wall first about half a meter from the side wall to create an angle that means that the ball comes back to the T so you can hit the next shot when the ball is out in front of you.

This routine is great for working on wrist position and racket preparation. Any floors in technique will immediately be highlighted during this exercise.. Notice how I keep my wrist cocked all the way through each shot and i keep my racket face open, I am trying to strike the bottom of the ball and put cut on each shot which helps me control the ball. after i have struck the ball my follow through continues through the line that I want the ball to go on.

Initially you can start by hitting the ball above the cut line nice and slowly before cranking up the speed. You can count how many you do in one minute and hopefully see you result improve as your game does, anything over 90 per minute is considered exceptional. Here is one final look at the exercise, don't forget to check out the other videos on the website.

  • Not all that useful a drill. Maybe only for taking ball off of backwall if overhit by opponent. But you will never hit an actual volley as he is doing. Oh well.

  • @nwlovell Its not meant to relate to a game situation. The purpose of the drill is to work on ball control and racket work. If you can can keep the ball going in this manner you are going to find taking a simple volley in soft and short far easier.
