A primer on trains from producer Norman Bean, who explains and illustrates the basics of this essential form of transportation. There are two kinds of trains: passenger and freight. Trains are usually pulled by diesel engines. In a railroad yard, a train is readied for its trip to the next city. A train stays on its track because its wheels have flanges. Signals along the track tell train's engineer when it is safe to proceed. This revision adds updated footage and covers concepts about the interaction of transportation and economics.
