Are you kidding me? I mean, seriously? This kid was probably just joking around and the school made a federal case out of it. My friend in high school got one of those from a field trip once and gave it to his friend, with his name written inn it. It was funny

dude, what it boils down to is that in the anime/manga the death note is a notebook you use to write down the names of people you want dead. in a society where school violence is what it is and in the aftermath of several school shootings do you really think a school wouldn't act if someone was stupid enough to bring what could be taken as a hitlist to school? the stupidity was bringing it to school, not the school trying to ensure the safety of the students and faculty.
