Fundamentals Tutorial Part 2: Scouting - SC2 Noob School

In part 2 of the Fundamentals series we're going to discuss scouting. Scouting is an incredibly important part of SC2, and could be explored in MUCH more than an 8 minute video.

For this video I am just wanting to cover early game race-neutral scouting. These ideas should work for every race, and should get you used to the mechanics necessary to scout effectively. Don't worry yet about whether you are able to react accordingly to the info you got--just do your best and keep your macro up while you scout.

isn't it quicker, at the end of the video, to just shift command you drone around instead of micro-ing it? or is it just good to practice micro-ing with that

I HATE IT WHEN THEY ATTACK A SCV WHILE ITS BUILDING!!!! then i get 1 worker short...

@Antony1188 it's set up so if you do that you lose. Plus if your scout makes sharp turns the enemy worker is able to get a hit in and eventually kill it

@RoGFatalEnigma This is what hotkeys are made for: try to assign one both to your command center/hatchery/nexus and to your scouting worker; double press your selected hotkey to view quickly what's going on in your base or what your worker sees. Multitasking will help you to manage your economy while gathering information ;)

Here's the question that I've been looking for an answer for: How exactly do I scout WHILE still macro-ing ? Every time I send out one of my scv's to scout, I get caught up in building and managing other SCV's that I forget about the scout, it gets to the enemy base, and dies before I see anything...

@Noaharrives dont even need to. My reccomendation is just to play online alot, and watch replays of losses that surprised you.

Also play through the whole practice league, it will help you gain comfort in late game situations.

Most importantly, LEARN YOUR COUNTERS! For example, its TvZ and you have lots of vikings. Your opponent decides to use mutalisks (natural counter to vikings), you pump out thors because they are the mutalisks counter!

@Rectowarrior sort of right about that, and this is super late so youve prob improved, but its important if your playing a good player, to scout their gas. If they are not collecting any, mass ling or fast expand. if they collect 100 and stop there, speedlings, if they collect 100+ which most players do even though they are going speedlings they just forget to take their drones off gas, it will be either banelings or roaches.
