@SirGuinness How could he confirm which unit was being shot at without getting a unit number? These guys often dispatch a number of departments at once...so he better confirm who he's talking to- to get the RIGHT people the back-up they need.

i am a firefighter for the city of utica and i have seen traps people have set in the house to kill emergency crews, one was a shotgun set up to a string so when the door is opened it shoots

Dispatcher is useless in the beginning. Who cares about the unit number. Our dispatchers do the same thing. You call with Priority or Emergency traffic and they care more about dispatching non-emergency calls or getting coffee then helping us.

graduated high school with the kid who got shot. had some classes with him. saw him at a house fire near my house recently. hes going back to the BFD in July.

Wow, that is f%cking scary. You can tell it's bad by listening to the dispatcher's voice;

" Man shooting out of the vehicle that got into the accident."

" Male shooting a gun?!"

What a waste of human skin, glad he got his own in the end.
