I recently found this game floating around the internet. It's called Meritous, and it's a freeware game that can be downloaded here: http://www.asceai.net/meritous/

I'd describe it as a top-down dungeon-crawler with shooter and RPG elements. You attack by charging a circular wave which destroys bullets fired at you and enemies when charged enough. The trick is that the more you charge it, the longer it takes to reload, meaning there is a careful strategy in how long to charge for.

AS you go on you find crystals from enemies you defeat. These can be spent on upgrades- you can buy a shield (absolutely necessary) as well as upgrade the power and charge time of your wave.

There are many treasure rooms with items that give you various benefits, but you have to fight a lot of enemies to gett hem first.

There's also a few boss fights that are actually quite challenging (they match how levelled you are, so if you have a powerful wave, the boss has more health.

The dungeon is randomly generated each time you play so no two games are the same, and it's HUGE- it took me a full day's playing to get through. It's also quite replayable, simple yet additive gameplay.

This is quite a poor video but it does get better, trust me.

  • How many endings are there? I only got the normal ending and I'm not sure what you need for any others.

  • I wasn't even aware there were other endings until they were commented on below, but since I didn't find the agate knife, I imagine there are three: easy mode, normal, and agate knife. I have no idea how to get it though.

  • I like the music but the video makes it look repettative and boring.

  • Remember this is only the beginning part of it. It gets more itnense later on, especially when you realise you've gone deeper in than you can handle at your current level and have to run away from everything coming for you at once. And the boss encounters are great fun. Remember, it'll cost you nothing to try it out :P

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!! i made a hacking tool for it spread the word:

  • I was just playing this, in the more deeper rooms... I had like 30 enemies in a large room, along with several of the ones that shoot stars, and one that shoots those blasts... I had to go sit down for a few after racing to a save

  • @Babybahamut NP =^-^=

  • Ah, thanks for that :D

  • Yeah, The final boss goes super sayan when you have the agate knife.

I have posted the agate knife ending if anyone wants to see it.

  • No, I have 100% too! XD

  • To get the Agate Knife, you have to visit evey last one of the 3000 rooms in the Dome. When you get it, all your stats become supercharged past the normal max obtainable level, and your hearts will each count as 2 hits instead of one (giving you a total of 6 HP)

The final boss, however, ALSO gets stronger too, and has a crazy new form that I still haven't managed to beat even with the awesome stats the Knife gives you. :/
