In just one corner a crash takes out two cars from the Penske Racing powerhouse. Jim Crawford loses it in turn 1 collecting Rick Mears in the wreck. Seconds later Emerson Fittipaldi became a victim losing it in turn 1 all by himself tagging the wall. To add along his broken wrist Mears broke his foot in the accident. Fittipaldi suffered a puncture wound in his knee but was back to driving the following week.

  • Incredible restart by Michael Andretti.

  • Emmo's crash was in turn 1 and the Crawford/Mears crash took place in the south short chute before emmo was in turn 1

  • The 1992 500 was the worst one of the decade. The day was cold & not very good racing conditions at all, Polesitter crashed before the green, Jim Crawford took out both Penske cars & then Michael Andretti's problem right at the end. Unser Jr winning was the only bright spot on the entire day.

  • That race was crazy, had nasty accidents, and a great and very close finish.

  • Excellent response from the safety team. 15 seconds!

  • Weather and track conditions were not kind to the drivers or cars in 92's Indy 500!

  • Cool classic vid. I go every year to the 500.This year will be 23 straight for me. Mears was my childhood favorite.
