  • does anybody know if it is possible to enable youtube to show adds during this vid? and how to prevent it? thanx

  • This is without a doubt the greatest and most real video on all of Youtube. It shows why Jazz is TRULY American CLASSICAL music, except these folks don't have to be reading the music like even the greatest orchestral players do--they are playing from the very essence of their souls. Also, the sound quality on this video is better than the other versions of it. Heartfelt Thanks for posting!

  • @bangwhistle69 welcome! thanks for the nice reaction.

  • Lester Young and Billie Holiday met for the last time at this recording session, December 1957. According to Doc Cheatham, trumpet player for the session, Lester kept to himself all day and sat apart all day. Everyone knew he was in bad shape. Even with that, you can hear the influence of Frank Trumbauer in Lester's playing his one chorus solo. It's been written that those in the control room were moved to tears after Young's solo. An amazing video - thanks for sharing it!

get a google account t's run by them now! conglomerations!lol my grand dad would love this if he were still alive! he played trumpet, piano and clarinet!

  • not only her voice is so deeply touching, the way she lives the music played by the other musicians is real but she's also so beautiful... (I know it's ridiculous but I love looking at her)

  • Out of this world! What a find! Pure magic.

  • @PHALANX47 Another record of what? She recorded 3 or 4 versions of Fine and mellow.

  • @bangwhistle69 I agree with you. I've been here for years and this is without a doubt my favorite vid...

I'm glad I was able to have seen some of those superstars while they were still with us.

If there was ever a better jazz jam session, I have yet to see---or hear---it.

  • If Billie Holiday had never made another record, other than this one, she would have still gone down in jazz history as one of the finest singers of her era, if not ever. Of course it goes without saying, the guys play a major part in what must be one of jazz' finest moments. Having said all that. What makes this version of fine & mellow so special, is the whole thing, not just one part or another, but it's entirety.

  • "Lester got up, and he played the purest blues I have ever heard, and [he and Holiday] were looking at each other, their eyes were sort of interlocked, and she was sort of nodding and half–smiling. It was as if they were both remembering what had been—whatever that was. And in the control room we were all crying. When the show was over, they went their separate ways."- jazz critic Nat Hentoff

  • @dougvdw1 Love Lester's part of this song best, you can tell he gave it his all even tho he was at his worst. One of his best solos

You have no control over it anyway since you do not own rights to the material in this video. If it shows advertisements, then it shows advertisements. If you were to try and put ads on here yourself for your own profit, it would be disabled.
