Lester Young and Billie Holiday met for the last time at this recording session, December 1957. According to Doc Cheatham, trumpet player for the session, Lester kept to himself all day and sat apart all day. Everyone knew he was in bad shape. Even with that, you can hear the influence of Frank Trumbauer in Lester's playing his one chorus solo. It's been written that those in the control room were moved to tears after Young's solo. An amazing video - thanks for sharing it!

I love to watch this film. The look on her face, the way she holds her head and smiles while Lester Young does his solos.......it's almost as good as her vocal interpretation itself.

I absolutely LOVE this rendition. I heard it on an XM radio jazz program on Saturday 4/13 while driving. Is this specific cut available as an audio recording? Please yes!

Irrelevant to the actual song itself, but it's pleasant to see a white man among them. I'm learning about civil rights movements in the 50's and 60's right now, and it's great to see with your own eyes that not everyone discriminated. Music was a field where most came together. It was amazing
