He seemed to have bounced back with Frenzy. But then Family Plot failed and that was the end.

Agreed, although some of his 90s stuff was inferior to his best. I was really just trying to name allot of the great late 60s-70s directors that came into my head. I missed a few to now that i think of it. Michael Mann's also a personal favorite of mine, but his debut was in the early 80s
