The 2010 Downtown Council Annual Luncheon focused on the role of the arts in the future of Downtown Kansas City. Downtown has the highest concentration of cultural amenities in the region and is home to one of the most vibrant arts communities in the nation. A recent New York Times article captured the vibrancy of downtown and highlights many of the art galleries and artists work/live shops. Our pivotal moment is at hand with the 2011 opening of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Grand Ballroom at the Kansas City Convention Center will be the location of the event, overlooking the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts as construction continues. Prior to the luncheon, the Experience the Art of Downtown exhibit, highlighting more than 50 new developments, creative industries, artists, cultural, entertainment and arts activities and new retail took place in the lobby.
