Oh that "thing"...
It's basically a modded out maglite that sets fire to leaves at like 3 inches away? *sarcasm*omg uber cool!*sarcasm*
and wicked lasers is a scam.
The "Porch" light as it is now commonly called is that thing that little kids scream for their parents to buy them.

The Aurora SH-40 Luminus SST-50 beats the shit out of this Fenix light for around $60 !
-
@abodiginal69 Sure you can... but they don't run on AA batteries :) that's why this light is so sweet.

@fryop Definitely use just NiMh rechargeables or alkaline. Lithiums put out a little bit more power which wouldn't be a problem with most lights, but when you get 8 of them that bit of extra power adds up... I guess it could possibly damage the circuits.
With something like a LD20 it's fine.
Definitely a nice light. It's one of my dream-lights to get right now lol. I like it better than the TK45.

Great impartial review. However, you are now probably looking to buy the TK45? Slightly less throw but the TK40 cannot compete with the extra brightness the TK45 brings.

haha in love with a fucking torch ahha it sounded funny.
But did you know you can buy a torch with over 4000 lumens of power.. Search "wicked lasers" and you'll find it. It costs over 300 dollars though..

One of the best lights to come out of Fenix. I just did a video beamshot of it.
Not to be an ass but, almost 11 minutes of my life gone and you don't even show the beam?

The beam doesn't show up in video. I would have to do a long exposure on a camera to capture it.

Is there anything brighter on the market that uses double a batteries?
MoPar7055 2 years ago
No, at least at the time of this review. To get brighter, you will have to buy a light that used CR123 or 18650 cells.

I have the TK 40 comin and was told not to use lithium batteries. Is there a chance of damaging it with those kind?
fryop 2 years ago
Yes. You can cause damage to the light using lithium cells. I guess I just got lucky. I used up the full life of those lithium cells and had no repercussions. I now use Sanyo Eneloop NIMH cells.
