  • Ya, I've thought about changing it but it works and it was what I had to work with at the time.

  • 4"x 6" about 30" long.

  • It's a counter weight for the lid. It allows the lid to be lifted with little effort.

  • The firebox should be 1/3 the size of the cooking chamber. Thats the rule of thumb. Mine is closer to 45% but could have been smaller. If you went with 24" w 20" h 20" D you will be just over the 1/3 size.

If you google "pit calculator" and follow the link to a site called the "Somke Ring" you will find a link to a calculator that will help you make a good working smoker.

    Good Luck with your build!

  • That's a funy story I could see how they would be worried I guess but like you said there are lots of places you could get a close up look at one if you wanted. There lots of pictures of them too. The hard part for me was getting the air flow drafting through the smoker right. With a little research I figured it out and made a nice smoker!

  • This is how I want to do my next one!

  • @DougsSmokePits

    Thanks!

Based on what I saw in the video of your smoker, you have all the skills you need to build any kind of smoker you decide to make. Ask away if you have any questions on my build.

  • Counter weight looks dumb dude, should have made it shorter, looks good other than that...

  • What size pipe is that

  • what is with the t on the top of the smoker what does that do?

  • whats the general rule of thumb for firebox sizes? im thinking of making a smoker from a 120 gallon propane tank. the diameter of the tank is 24 inches. im guessing 24x24x24 inches for the firebox. is that about right?

  • 2 vegans musta disliked it.
