The American space agency NASA, has unveiled new images of the planet Mercury.
The MESSENGER probe zoomed about 200 kilometers above
Mercury's surface on January 14, taking over a thousand photographs of the surface as it flew
past.

Scientists say the photos show that the planet is a lot less like Earth's moon than many previously thought.
Less than half of the planet's surface has been mapped.
The probe is scheduled to pass Mercury again in October 2008 and in
September 2009, with help from the planet's gravity.

  • Mercury isn't that colorful - it looks kind of like the moon, actually. Fraid you're not going to get much color from mercury, although the new pictures are more detailed than the old ones from the mariner probe!

  • That's precisely what it looks like. What were you expecting?

  • I have in my position a fragment of

NWA 2999 Angrite - a meteorite believed to be ejecta from Mercury.

  • Im proud to be a gemini with this planet for me,and anyone else who shares its energy...I have a mercury glyph tattoed on my the back of my neck...its cool cos the glyph for the planet is also the sign for the element.

  • Caloris basin is 940 miles in diameter. That's huge for a planet of this size. who knows, it could be the biggest plain-on-planet ( as a ratio of relative sizes) anywhere in the whole solar system.

  • what!
