I think we all knew what he was trying to say/imply. He was saying that you owe at least some gratitude for people you met during your life who had a positive impact on your life. This man does hundreds of interviews/speeches, I think he can slip up from time to time. By the way, you are looking at a mixed man who grew up confused and wasn't given anything who rose to the top of the not only the country, but the world....so I think he may deserve some respect on this issue.
