Taken at 8:30 pm on August 5th, 2009, this video clip shows the dead sardines and a dead Humboldt squid (dead for several days) rolling in on the surf near Frank Island on the south side of Chesterman Beach.

  • Yes, a Humboldt squid.

  • Died from jelly fish overpopulating?

  • No, that's not likely. We're not sure yet whether they have a disease called VHS (a not uncommon disease of some marine fishes), or perhaps encounter very cold water, or low oxygen water.

  • just came back from Chile, Punta Arenas. On New Years Eve 2010 were thousands of sardines washed up on the beach. It was on two places I was. Those two places were 60km away from each other. Same picture though. Locals couldnt tell me why that is.
