Its called a professional foul and every player in the world would have done the same. In rugby if you foul to prevent a try then the try is given anyway but in football only a penalty or a free is given. Any player would take a red card and penalty over a goal. I know a guy who plays league football and he did it before except what he did was deliberately take down a player who was through on goal to save his team the match

i felt sad when gyan missed the penalty because to me he's a very sypathetic guy and i think ghana was the better side but you can't blame suarez for the handball, he sacrified himself, knowing that he will miss the world cup semifinal, maybe the most important game in is career, for his teammates and his country! and to be honest: no footballplayer in the whole word would let the ball pass the line in this situation!
