The Black Hole OST Durant is Dead

This part plays once the crew of the Palomino learn from Vincent that Durant has been killed (pretty graphically too for a Disney flick) and Kate is being escorted to the "hospital" to be converted into a mindless humanoid. If you listen to this piece carefully, it sounds an awful lot like the track Pawnee Attack from the Dances With Wolves soundtrack. Given that they were both done by John Barry, it should come as no surprise, but it is kind of cool in some ways.

Maximilian shredding Anthony Perkins was a true WTF shocker for those accustomed to the usual Disney fare. Still awesome in 2011!

@bps3013 Yeah, I wasn't expecting that at all the first time I saw the film as a kid. Actually bugged me quite a bit and I remember my parents actually telling me to shut my eyes at that part. Of course I peeked slightly to see it. Kinda wish I hadn't that first time though lol.

This movie was kind of nihilistic... Before this scene, you thought they would escape in high adventure, but instead it all goes downhill from here... The asteroids scene was like the escape sequence that made you think these people were indestructible... but then.. well.. the body count starts to rise

@ExosiusWoolley Yeah, I have to agree with you on that one. The film does get pretty dark right after Durant bites the dust (pretty graphically to for a Disney flick I might add). But there are shining moments, like the rescue of Kate from the hospital, and the bridge shootout sequence, with the overture playing during both parts.
