A lot of riffs/licks like this one i wrote start with an ascending (in pitch) slide, directly to the desired note. The 4 main notes i use start at the 12th fret (the same E note on the 4th string 2nd fret and 5th string, 7th fret). So that would be E, E flat, D, and finally the resolving note, D flat. There's another "finishing riff" that i use to transition back to the beginning (the 12th fret E note) but for the most part, that's how it can be separated. Finally the melody notes are interlaced between the main progressive riff. The highest note that you're hearing has been accented to help it stand out a bit. But that was just using my own judgement when in the writing process.

There's really something to be said about, just TRUSTING yourself and the music that you have inside of you already. Melodies are there, you just have to access them. AND, just for the record - it's the same truth for the voice and people singing; you DO have a voice, or else you wouldn't be talking. The one thing that might be holding you back is your understanding of Intervals.
