Agreed. I hate what football has become now. The corporations, the sterility, the all-seater bowls, the plastic fans. Don't give up hope that one day people power will bring back the terraces, as a lot of people feel the same way... but for now, I'd go as far as to say I've fallen out of love with the game that was once everything to me. It's sad.

@1878EFC2008 Not wrong there mate. I remember as a teenager at the end of the eighties and early nineties stood on the Lowfield Road Paddock. Go to Elland Rd now and you can see the half empty east stand where 33 quid is the cheapest ticket. I've lived in Germany for 18 years now and take my kids to Hannover home games where you can still stand on the terraces (and its very safe), the fan culture is still alive and ticket prices from €6 for the kids to a max of €45 for VIP seats

@UlsterGroundhopper Well I should mention that I only started going to football around 1992, so I am speaking from a posiion of ignorance about the 80's experience. The things you mention do seem unpleasant, but then likewise I feel that the negative aspects of today's experience are unpleasant in different more subtle way. I believe there is a way to meet in the middle - where we allow controlled standing/singing/atmosphere/ch
eap tickets etc and still have a respectful and enjoyable experience! -
@eJasminde Really though? bringing back the fan at the back of the stands who urinates into a crisp packet and throws it at the fans in front. The being herded like animals in cages to watch the game, The being hit by a missile thrown from opposition fans. Football was dying, hooligans were killing it and it had to change. I for one don't miss the 80s experience and feel that the spectator experience has changed dramatically for the better.
