Robotic healthcare - A unique opportunity to advance care for the aged
The University of Auckland, UniServices and Korea are working together to develop inexpensive mobile health robots (healthbots).
Vision
Robots can perform routine healthcare tasks, such as checking
blood pressure and providing reminders to take medication, and
can facilitate remote communication with medical professionals.
Robots may enrich social experiences by connecting people
with family and friends through the internet, and by providing
interactive technologies.
It is proposed that this assignment will:
• reduce healthcare costs by allowing healthbots to perform
simple tasks
• improve the level of patent monitoring
• use healthbots to collect data and log events
• increase the capacity of aged care facilities without degradation
of services
• increase stimulation and quality of life.
New Zealand, like Korea and Japan, has a rapidly
aging population which will soon dominate the total
healthcare spend. Automation through projects such as
the New Zealand/Korean healthbots is seen as a possible
alternative to increased staff and as a way to extend
some services to the home.
great idea...
