the ritual part are is 1) challenger and defender roles are predefined, 2) body language (lunging and clapping) accentuates demanding a reply and 3) the manner of questioning and replying is strictly defined. the purpose of these formalties is to force the arguments to be logically rigorous. the topic of the debate is often the relationship of one given phenomena to another. so this debate is actually more intellectual than anything we're used to.
I don't understand... this is the weirdest form of debate I've ever seen. I suspect this might be more a ritual than an intellectual debate... am I right?
Thank you for this video. I love Tibetan rituals and monasteries. There is a good documentary on youtube that showcases Gaden Monastery, currently relocated to Mundgod, India - Tsem Tulku Rinpoche Goes Home!! (1). Nice to have a glimpse of Tibetan monastic lives through the video.
I am so going to start doing that when I'm arguing with someone

I wander why those Asian monks are most respected in a world? Is it because by nature they have most keen intuition?
By the way, this nun is not that white, a mix, may be.
