@spsfreak Great comment & advice. Some decent speakers will run less than $25 and will sound better than the iPod dock stations.

Why not just spend a few bucks on a set of powered PC speakers that has the PC speaker connection built in.... plug that into your iPod.... instant speakers for your device that will not burn it up; due to the fact that they are powered already.
use a metal or wood drill not a cement drill

Alternatively leave the jack in the cable, leave your ipod inside your speaker, probably you need a ipod shuffle (the small ones) and leave the end of the speaker cable dangle,slightly stripped.
Watch your friends freak out :D
