Circa 1950s or 1960s, the "Shinola Ski Club" is the best that I can make out from the handwriting on the case. Location is likely somewhere in Minnesota.
Film from the Walt and Esther Reid film 8mm film collection. Projected from a Bell & Howell 122 LR at highest possible speed onto white foamcore at a distance of approx. 4 feet, just past a Sony TRV-520 video camera (approx. 3 feet from the foamcore) in "spotlight" auto-exposure. Captured live via camera's Firewire output (not sent to tape) into Windows Movie Maker as "high-quality NTSC" Windows Media Video (not raw DV), then slowed by 50% and re-saved in "high-quality NTSC" .WMV for upload to YouTube.
Slower speed settings on the projector provide a flicker-free image but the brightness of the captured image "phases" in and out; the flicker effect appears to be less distracting. Reducing the speed in Windows Movie Maker makes the movement more realistic and seems to reduce the flicker.
