Glam rock from Japan! This clip is in Japanese. Vodka Collins 45 rpm single on EMI-Toshiba, "Automatic Pilot" from 1972. This was a double a-sided hit single with the flip side "Sands Of Time"
The song originally was released as a single, then appeared on the album "Tokyo - New York" which is considered a milestone document of the Japan scene.
It was re-recorded on a Vodka Collins 1995 reunion album titled "Chemical Reaction" on Polystar records, and also appeared on the best of Vodka Collins collection "Boys In The Band" also on Polystar. Lead singer Alan Merrill originally wrote this song in English and it was translated into Japanese by drummer Hiroshi Oguchi.
In 2002 Alan Merrill released the original English language version on his "Cupid Deranged" album. The song has also appeared on Merrill's 2008 solo retrospective "Alien In Tokyo" in Japanese, remastered and remixed from the original Vodka Collins recording.
The Vodka Collins "Tokyo - New York" album is still re-issued regularly, decades after its initial release in 1973.

  • Glam in Japanese!

  • I see The Toys covered this some 17 years after Vodka Collins. I like both versions! A great song stands the test of time.

  • 大口さんのご冥福を心からお祈り申し上げますm(_ _)m

  • Cool band!

  • I love this -

  • Yeah, it's a cool mixture of Bolan, Bowie, and Glitter flavours. A total glamrock experience!

  • Great song. It sounds like a Bowie and Bolan hybrid song in Japanese.
