At 7am on morning during a Baha'i youth camp in Townsville, north queensland, Australia, this kookaburra followed me from outside my lodgings to upstairs of this building when I went to get my camera.

  • How lucky you are to have cockatoo's and kookaurra flying free. We only see them in bird gardens here.

He was abeauty. Did he ever come back?

  • Yeh, I think he's a permanent at this site.

  • Isn't just an honour-like feeling to be accepted by a wild animal! He must have had contact with humans before to allow you to get so close. Gorgeous bird!

  • And I have the sneaking feeling that he might have thought he was following the money (well in bird terms). Maybe one early bird that felt a little let down.

  • Hi Leah, I'm sure you won't take long to hear or see a kookaburra. This one is on a property on Leopold street on the river.

  • One of the mascots for the 2000 Olympics, in Australia, was the kookaburra. This bird sounds like a laughing human and represents the air over Australia.
