I had a brain injury setback a few months ago and am working to progress with walking with the help of my service dog, Windsor. Windsor is a mobility and medical alert dog who wears his vest today and helps me with balance, walking safely, crossing the street, and performs a medical alert. My talking is limited with my brain injury and it takes great concentration to focus on my steps. Windsor also wears a mobility harness at other times to help me balance and walk.

Windsor is not distracted before he takes me across the street. The camera could not show that he's watching the bike approach and pass us. Then you see how he moves into place to prepare and cross the street.

  • TrueMirror - We all laugh at "Happy Feet" and "Happy Brain" around here. As you know, it can be quite a change to process life thru a brain injury, so any time we can laugh and smile it helps us all. I know what it's like to whooops! Lose the legs out from under you. My arms go up and down involuntarily, but I don't fly! That's a neat skill you have to be able to fly! :D Thank you for writing & encouraging me. It's great for all of us to be able to encourage each other.

  • Yay for Conner being a blessing in your life!!! Windsor is a 2 year old British Cream Golden Retriever. Prior to my brain injury, I was a teacher. My docs hoped a SD would encourage brain healing & help me with physical problems. Windsor came partially trained by a SD trainer. Then another SD trainer worked with me to continue his training & certify him. We too use a moblity harness (from Bold Leads) in public. This video was one of my physical therapy sessions after a bad setback.

  • Thank you Kris and Patriot! We love blessings and we love prayers! :D

  • Thank you TeamPDPM...I've had some peeps helpin' me (and therefore Sir W) along the way! :D They've inspired me! :D

  • Thank you so much! We'll keep it up! :D

  • how do you teach him to brace?

  • Kris, You are doing so well, keep up all of that hard work, it does improve, I love your "happy feet" you are so much more graceful than I am when my feet kick out from under me, or my arms go flying. Every year it gets better. And what a beautiful companion Windsor is. Thank you for sharing with us, gives fellow TBI hope, and teaches the world a little bit more of what it is like.

  • I have a service dog too. I have a brain injury too since birth. I got Conner from Assistance Dogs of America Inc aka ADAI in November 2007. He's a 4 yr old yellow lab. What breed is Windsor, where did you get him from, how old is he? I use mobility harness when were out in public. Hope Windsor becomes you service dog.

  • Blessings & prayers to the both of you!

    Luv,

    Kris and Patriot

  • Watching the videos of you working with Windsor is pure inspiration, Christy. YOU are amazing and the two of you make an awesome, miracle of a team.
