As seen on Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria. In Zimbabwe, growing political and economic instability has put unprecedented pressure on the country's environment. Deforestation, poaching and unsustainable resource exploitation are destroying what was once among the best-managed park systems in Africa.

This report is part of Pulitzer Center-sponsored project "Zimbabwe: Human Conflict/Environmental Consequences" (http://bit.ly/snMQ28). Reporter Stephanie Hanes and photographer Jeffrey Barbee traveled across southern and central Africa to gauge the environmental consequences of human conflict, efforts at restoration and strategies to protect economically vital environmental resources in future conflicts.
