Long before making sculpture I dreamed of being a surgeon. The challenge of working so carefully with my hands was satisfied by the creation of very fragile machines. A machine with no utilitarian purpose, this is as close to drawing or painting as I can get. After giving myself a starting point, the machine grew organically. The actions and movement of parts are meaningfully trivial.

  • Quite beautifully said...

  • I don't own a gallery, I'll never be able to afford to buy a Ganson piece (if they're even for sale) but I've loved this kind of kinetic sculpture ever since, ten years ago in high school, I looked at 1960s art books with photos of little motorized sculptures with titles like "Quiet Noises". But, having tried and failed to create little motorized wire machines, perhaps someday I'll be able to purchase one of these have have this sort of magic in my home. That's what these are: magical.
