U.S. Senate Candidate Al Franken discusses public health issues while visiting the University of Minnesota booth at the Minnesota State Fair. (Note: The School of Public Health invited several political candidates at the Fair to respond to our questions, but only Franken agreed.)
Scratch the first part of my last response--listen to the last 1 and 1/2 minutes of the video-his definition of public health is spot on--SES, infrastructure, improving population health factors. Wonderful response!

Al Franken's grasp at public health is a little off, but that's not his field of specialty (how many people know the definitions of medicine versus public health?). I agree with a lot of his statements, but most importantly he was the only candidate to AGREE to talk and without talking points in hand. His opinion is honest and at least he is willing to be interviewed rather than a 30-second add, which is less than public health usually gets (and that's another topic altogether).
