This is the original DOS version played in an emulator, it supports LAN play, but if you use a tunnel proxy it will work over the Internet too.

DOSBox has an inbuilt IPX tunnelling server, which allows DOS LAN games to be played on a modern LAN or over the Internet.

For the windows version of the game, Antares' launcher should enable TCP/IP, and that works over the Internet...

You should try out the open source remake of Z called The Zod Engine.

It is at zod.sf.net
