@scojohnson: You're missing the point entirely. With Oracle VDI you can pretty much use *ANY* OS (Windows XP, Vista, 7, probably 8 too, 32-bit, 64-bit, Linux, Solaris, OpenSolaris, Solaris 11 Express ...) and have them displayed on your Sun Ray Thin Client device. Or on iPad, if ever Apple allows this app to get past their review process.
What would I do with a Sun Desktop? I can barely figure out what to do with Solaris at this point... It's like... Gee... it's nice. Now what do I do with it?
This is nice, but I think Oracle should consider a Sun Ray tablet as well. The could use a slogan like "The Network is the computer" and let Larry have a cute dog named Network as a mascot...
@sdewberry but can you run Ubuntu on your iPad? guess not

Solaris Desktop will definitely have to be updated to a more modern version

why apply cool multitouch technology to a crappy desktop ?
I have 4 different desktops in use - OSX, WIndows, Linux Mint , Solaris.
Solaris desktop is lagging behind all of them - in features , speed and quality and everything.
oracle please, licence a osx desktop from apple and kill Java Desktop,
