Sean & Victoria have gone to Iceland - to hang out with elves and get swept away by the beautiful new Sigur Rós album. Is it the ideal soundtrack to accompany the melting of the polar ice caps?
Meanwhile, Sean is enchanted by Dennis Wilson's 1977 masterpiece, Pacific Ocean Blue, and Vic gets worked up over Vinny Vinny & nu-soul. Mentioned in dispatches are Fleet Foxes, Albert Hammond Jnr, Elbow, The Vinyl Stitches, Organ Morgan and cool new Sheffield five-piece Slow Down Tallahassee -- 'The Shangri-Las meets The Breeders'.

  • @Ashleynorris i think it's because people like hearing another culture, especially one that's not so well known. and they're not "old prog rock", they've only been around since the very late 1990s. King Crimson and Yes are old prog rock. Sigur Rós is prog with a little bit of ambience, a little bit of dream pop and a little bit of shoegaze all together.

and when it comes to popularity it's all down to marketing and public opinion.

  • Don't get what all the fuss is about. Sigur Ros are dodgy old progressive rock, but cos they are from Iceland everyone thinks they are a bit exotic.

Now Slow Down Tallahassee - that's genius pop music with LOL lyrics and loads of attitude. They should be at least fifty tiems bigger than the Tings

  • Hey gummi010 I am off to Benicassim so will be seeing them there. Am soooooo excited!!!

    Victoria

  • Sigur Rós is pretty much the best band out there today! You have to see them live before you die!:)
