If I were you, I'd get in the habit of holding the model on the top where the leading edge of the wing would go. It's less likely to pop upward and take a chunk out of your arm than it is to go sideways while holding it...AND you won't have much of the oil spitting out of the muffler on you from that angle.
I've been flying for nearly 25 years and I've had my share of accidents.
